Niaru
Hi, my name is Claire. My Exracer moniker, Niaru, is the name
of my very first horse, a spirited Selle Français mare
named by her breeder after a small African village. I was born
and raised in France, but I’ve been in the US for a long time
now, and a member of Exracers since its very beginnings.
A good friend of mine introduced me to off track thoroughbreds
years ago after I lost my beloved little Morgan mare (my first
“American” horse!) and I never looked back. I bought my current
mare, Your So Charming aka Charm, at the racetrack in Boston
when she was 4 years old. She is a very personable, athletic
and quirky little mare who regularly makes me laugh with her
antics, and who patiently bore my shortcomings as a “race horse
re-trainer”!
My own background is in traditional English riding as taught
by the military in France (dressage, jumping, Horsemanship).
I showed in dressage, jumping and Combined Training both in
France and in the US, but due to budget and family constraints
regular showing is now on the back burner. However, in the US
I discovered Hunter Paces and that is what Charm and I enjoy
doing the most, along with dressage and jumping lessons (because
I want to keep learning), cross country schooling, and riding
on the beach! The Exracers community has been a witness of our
ups and downs and progress from the very start, and is a great
place to share our experiences with our Ottbs!
Our purpose is to promote awareness of retraining
Exracers
into new careers after their racing days are over.
Most of the action takes place in our forums,
where we discuss training tips and questions, as well as
non-exracer topics. You don't have to own an exracer to join
in the discussion. Anyone is welcome!
Be sure to check out our Exracers map
to see if we have an Exracer member near you. And pop into the
virtual Stable,
to read some of our Exracer success stories.
